Precision is the core business of Ulm-based testing systems specialist ZwickRoell. But while the machines it produces are accurate to the My, the transportation of components on the factory premises has long been a logistical challenge. Time-critical spare parts and test components had to be moved manually by forklift truck between the assembly halls in all weathers - a huge personnel effort that was difficult to integrate into digital processes.
Breaking through the barrier at the hall gate
In established industrial structures, conventional indoor AMRs quickly reach their physical limits: Uneven asphalt or inclines are insurmountable obstacles for them.
This is where the INDUROS from Innok Robotics comes into play. It is not a delicate indoor dweller, but a robust powerhouse that has been specially developed for combined indoor and outdoor use.
Technological highlights in practical use
At ZwickRoell, the INDUROS has established itself as an indispensable pillar of logistics. The video on the project impressively shows the hurdles the system overcomes in everyday use:
Outdoor performance: thanks to its stable chassis and large drive wheels, potholes, expansion joints or adverse weather conditions are no obstacle.
Autonomous coupling and decoupling: The robot automates the material flow by independently coupling and decoupling transport boxes and trailers.
Maximum personal safety: Hybrid navigation merges data from LiDAR scanners and AI-based processing. As a result, the INDUROS recognizes pedestrians and forklifts faster than any human and reacts without delay.
Navigation in narrow outdoor areas: the robot even navigates narrow passages and complex infrastructures precisely and safely.
Efficiency that pays off
The introduction of the INDUROS at ZwickRoell has significantly improved the planning of production throughputs. The elimination of cumbersome forklift traffic means that transport times are reduced in the long term.
"Our collaboration with Innok Robotics is based on trust, reliability and innovation. Thanks to their fast response times and reliable problem solving, we can always count on smooth operations. Challenges are tackled proactively. Vehicle availability has been increased to 99.9% over the last 4 years. This strong partnership is the basis for our success in the automation of our internal material flow," says Benedikt Herter, Head of Intralogistics and Service Equipment at ZwickRoell.
With a typical ROI of between 1.5 and 2.5 years and the relief of skilled workers in monotonous transportation tasks, the cooperation proves that the future of intralogistics is autonomous AND all-terrain.
